Jazz-Violinist Mads Tolling will talk about applications for string players in non-classical music. In doing so, he will focus on specific techniques that are related to groove, and how these techniques and textures can be used in a wide variety of genres including Latin, jazz, and folk music. Participants will have an opportunity to bring their instruments. To assimilate what was being taught, the workshop will end with playing a few easy tunes. All instruments and ages are welcome.

Mads is a former member of Stanley Clarke’s Band and the Turtle Island Quartet. As part of Turtle Island he received two Grammy Awards in the Classical-Crossover category. He now focuses his time on his own group, Mads Tolling Quartet, which tours all over the world.
