Bassist and co-founder of the famed indie-rock band Camper Van Beethoven, Victor Krummenacher makes his Freight debut tonight with an evening of searing roots rock. With the spotlight firmly on his narrative-driven songs, Victor presides over acoustic and electric sets of original gothic-tinged country, swampy blues, and Memphis soul and rock. Guest musicians for this amazing performance include guitar wizard Scott Nygaard, vocalist Cary Sheldon, pedal steel legend Bruce Kaphan (American Music Club, David Byrne, Black Crowes, REM, Jewel), plus Victor's regular band: Paul Olguin (Maria Muldaur, Shana Morrison), John Hanes (Henry Kaiser, Richard Thompson) and electric guitarist Doug Hilsinger.

Victor has led a long, complex, and sometimes under-the-radar musical career. Born in Riverside, California, he bought his first bass at age 16 and played brief stints with "bad punk bands that couldn't even finish a song" before helping to found Camper Van Beethoven in the early 1980s. (The band's eponymously titled 1986 album, which cemented their reputation as one of the most important combos of that era, has been claimed by some to be the very first americana album.) Through other notable projects including Monks of Doom, Cracker, and A Great Laugh, Victor continued to polish his songwriting and performance, as well as recording acclaimed solo efforts like The Cock Crows at Sunrise and Patriarch's Blues.
