If your whistle is dry, if you feel like having a good time, if you want to give something new a try – check out Thirsty Thursday at the Freight! Admission is free, the bands are great, and it's an all around good time!

The Berkeley Blues Coalition plays bluesy classic rock – think Cream, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix – and contemporary blues. Featuring Celeste Kopel on lead vocals, Nathan Phillips on lead guitar, JV Fowler on drums, Barry Weinstein on rhythm guitar, and Kit Newkirk on bass, the band returns to the Freight for their fourth appearance – and judging from the first three, we’re in for a treat.

The G Burns Jug Band plays urban blues, mountain fiddle, and popular music of the 1920s and 30s with an intensity and authenticity rarely heard today. Based in San Diego, the band features native Kentuckian Clinton Davis on guitar, tenor banjo, banjolin, and vocals, Batya MacAdam-Somer on fiddle and vocals, Meghann Welsh on accordion, tenor banjo, and vocals, Jonathan Piper on jug, tuba, and vocals, and Anders Larsson on percussion. No Depression calls their music “a joyous and soulful restoration of the lost treasures of American musical tradition.”

The Whitecliff Rangers are a crew of lifelong musicians who share a passion for the music of the 60s British invasion. With brothers Robb and Bart Scott, and Jim Black, the band plays early Rolling Stones and other British devotees of American blues & pop.
