Tao Rodriguez-Seeger's music takes the folk styles of his family heritage in distinctive directions, fusing them with contemporary rock-n-roll and a rootsy, psychedelic vibe. With Tao singing lead vocals and playing electric guitar and banjo, his band has performed at an impressive lineup of events, from the 2009 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, the Newport Folk Festival, and the Monterey Jazz Festival.

Born into a musical family in Poughkeepsie, New York, Tao is the eldest grandchild of folk singer Pete Seeger. Tao spent his childhood in Nicaragua where his father was a war correspondent. Tao cherished his AC/DC and Metallica cassettes along with the two tapes he had of his grandfather's music, a merging of rock and folk music that would come to influence Tao in his musical career. In 1986, a teenaged Tao joined Grandpa Pete at a Hiroshima Day rally in front of an audience of more than half a million people in Japan for their first concert together, beginning a musical partnership that would take Tao and Pete around the world, culminating in their January 2009 performance with Bruce Springsteen at the Presidential Inauguration for Barack Obama. Tao has also co-founded acclaimed folk/rock groups The Mammals and RIG (Rodriguez/Irion/Guthrie).
