Scars on 45Scars on 45 is a captivating indie folk rock band from Yorkshire. Their music is clever and catchy, sensitive and somehow substantial. “I carved your name on an old oak tree / but the council chopped it down / cause it was filled with disease,” they sing on “Give Me Something,” which Amazon named one of the “Top Three Singles of the Year” in 2011. The band has also been named to the “Must List” on Entertainment Weekly, and their songs have been featured on such television shows as CSI: New York, Grey’s Anatomy, One Tree Hill, and Supernatural.

Guitarist, lead singer, and songwriter Danny Bemrose turned to music after he got an injury playing professional football – that’s soccer to us yanks. He teamed up with another soccer player, bassist Stuart Nichols, and they soon added keyboard player David Nowakowski, percussionist Chris Durling, and singer Aimee Driver. Danny and Aimee both supply stirring vocals, with able support from David, and the rhythm section provides just the right amount of propulsion. The band’s name, by the way, comes from something they heard Emmylou Harris say in an interview, about getting in trouble for playing her dad’s records over and over again and leaving scars on the 45s – and that’s the title of their fine debut album. Come see Scars on 45 for an exciting, appealing show.
