When you listen to Over the Rhine, the supremely talented wife-husband duo of Karen Bergquist and Linford Detweiler, you quickly fall under the spell of Karen’s compelling voice, ethereal and earthy at once, and then you notice the subtle, satisfying arrangements, all the instruments so exquisitely balanced, and finally the lines of the songs start hitting you, those artful darts: “What a beautiful piece of heartache / this has all turned out to be” or “All my favorite people are broken” or “Some questions cannot be answered / Who’s going to bury who?” Paste Magazine praises their “lovely, heartbreaking, and ultimately uplifting musical mosaic.” The Washington Post applauds their “understated, country-tinged charm.” The Wall Street Journal describes their 2013 album, Meet Me at the Edge of the World, as “subtle and elegant, with airy musical arrangements and breathtaking vocal harmonies that fit the title of the album.”
 
Over the Rhine takes its name from a beautiful old neighborhood in their hometown, Cincinnati. The couple still lives in Ohio, but now on a farm called Nowhere. They’ve recorded 14 studio albums and five live albums, and contributed to ten compilations. Their latest album, Blood Oranges in the Snow, is their third Christmas album. “I confess,” Linford says, “I think I’m mostly just trying to get back to that early time in my life when the music was all brand new, something to be discovered.” Karen calls their approach “Reality Christmas” – they tell the dark stories usually left untold. That’s their way. They’ll happily take you to the edge of the world, and, as Karen sings, “Baby if this is nowhere / how sweet it is to find.”

Singer-songwriter William Fitzsimmons has recorded seven solo albums, appeared on several compilations, and had his songs “Passion Play” and “Please Don’t Go” featured on Grey’s Anatomy. The website FolkRadioUK calls his latest album, Lions, “quite beautiful and filled with songs that are veiled, impressionistic, yet potent.” William grew up outside Pittsburgh, the son of two blind parents who both loved music. He studied psychology, earned a master’s in counseling, and worked as a therapist before starting his recording career. “Music, at its best, is an incredibly therapeutic tool, even when you don't realize it consciously,” he said in an interview in the Huffington Post. His deeply personal music is heartfelt and hypnotic, with haunting vocals and deft fingerpicking on guitar.
