Berkeley songwriter and storyteller Nancy Schimmel serves up a delicious blend of music, politics, and humor – the same irresistible recipe that made her 70th birthday show at the old Freight a hit, and likewise her 75th birthday celebration at the new Freight. Tonight’s show will feature Nancy’s co-writers, Judy Fjell and Candy Forest, and two of Nancy’s singing groups, the Organic Women’s Chorus, led by Marianne Barlow, and Occupella, which includes Nancy, Bonnie Lockhart, Betsy Rose, Hali Hammer, and Leslie Hassberg. There’s sure to be a surprise guest or two as well.

Most of the songs will be by Nancy, drawing especially on songs written in the past few years. At least one song will be by her mother, Malvina Reynolds. (It will not be “Little Boxes.”) Everyone is invited. The concert will benefit the Center on Race, Poverty, and the Environment.
