Mountain Dulcimers offer the opportunity to play lead or rhythm, take a
solo or accompany singing. Learning to play basic chord structures in
multiple keys allows players greater flexibility in the musical world.
You¹ll learn several songs, including some Child Ballads, with chords and
tunings. Some exploration of personal key placement will be offered.
Different strums, finger- and flat-picking patterns & the basics of how to
apply these techniques to songs in the future will be covered.
Teacher, Deborah Hamouris, has played mountain dulcimer since 1979 and
taught it for over a decade. She has a BA in Music and gets excited about
teaching music both privately & in classes. Deborah currently directs two
singing groups and plays in a folk duo, The DulciMates, with husband
Buffalo. In 2013 she created the Berkeley Dulcimer Gathering at the
Freight & Salvage, which takes place again on 6/10/17.
