Two up-and-coming Bay Area singer-songwriters perform a double bill of jazz and innovative songcraft.

Lissy Walker appears the Freight stage for the first time in a set spotlighting numbers from her newly released CD, Life is Sweet, backed by an amazing band featuring pianist John R. Burr, Scott Nygaard on guitar, bassist Jon Evans, Dave Ellis, Dave Rokeach, Erik Jekabson, and Philip Worman. Lissy is primarily a jazz singer, but her wide-ranging musical interests set her apart from your average chanteuse. She's been an actress and singer for most of her life and brings a dramatic sensibility to her jazz vocals with nuances of folk, pop, and country in her performances, including numbers by folks like Nick Drake and Randy Newman alongside Great American Songbook classics.

Singer-songwriter Alexis Harte has musical roots that extend into acoustic folk, bluesy americana, and even electrified Afro-pop. His songs are powered by an examination of everyday moments, with details thrown into sharp relief. His warm voice, organic melodies, and sophisticated guitar playing are backed tonight by some very special guests, including guitar wizard Shelley Doty and whistler extradoinaire/cellist Phil Worman, as Alexis explores in song the pressing question of how to live soulfully in the 21st century. Alexis' recent CD is Big Red Sun.
