Come treat your ears to a musical feast tonight, with jazz-tinged harmonizing and gems from the Great American Songbook, as Clockwork and Leftover Dreams split the bill.

Clockwork applies their unique sound to music from funk to gospel and R&B to jazz standards. Rooted in the tradition of great vocal jazz groups such as the Hi-Lo's and Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, Clockwork features vocalists Angie Doctor, Juliet Green, John Paddock, and Dave Duran, with guitarist David Landon, bassist Clinton Day, and Deszon Claiborne on drums. The group tips its collective hat to luminaries from across various musical genres, blending familiar tunes in intriguing ways. Ani DiFranco dances cheek to cheek with Herbie Hancock and Charlie Parker acquires lyrics in a performance that ranges from ballads to complex bebop lines normally only performed by an experienced saxophone section.

Dazzling violin and guitar soloist, and mellifluous vocalist, Tony Marcus is well known to Freight audiences from his ineffably dapper performances with Cats & Jammers and the Cheap Suit Serenaders. His singing partner, the lovely Patrice Haan, has a rich, sultry voice. Together, they comprise Leftover Dreams, applying their artful talents to standards (and not-so-standards) from the golden age of American song, from moody ballads to jumping swingers to unabashedly romantic love songs, joined tonight by Jeff Sanford on sax and clarinet. As on their most recent CD, We'll Take Romance, Patrice and Tony throw in the occasional quirky original which springs from the same tradition but takes a left turn somewhere.
