The Jazzschool Institute brings to the Freight stage two diverse
& talented student groups led by saxophonist and composer Michael
Zilber for their end-of-the-semester performances. The Miles
Davis/Wayne Shorter Ensemble features Lu Salcedo, guitar; Christian Sullivan, piano; Matt Rhodes, piano; and Aaron Hipschman, drums.
The
Advanced Jazz Ensemble, featuring Madison Bohrer, sax; Patrick
Malabuyo, trombone; Henry Moser, guitar; Tomy O'Mahony, bass and Dillon
Vado, drums, focuses on important core innovations by post-bop
luminaries, including Joe Henderson, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Dave
Liebman, and Michael Brecker among others. Students also perform original works.
The
Jazzschool Institute offers a conservatory program devoted to the study
and performance of jazz and related styles of music, fostering the
artistic development of aspiring professional jazz musicians and
building new audiences to sustain and promote the jazz art form. The
institute integrates a comprehensive, progressive undergraduate
education program taught by world-class musicians and music educators,
preparing the next generation for a fulfilling life in the dynamic world
of the performing arts.
