The most globe-trotting Western swing trio on the planet,
Hot Club of Cowtown, is hitting the Freight with fire in their fingers and a brand-new CD under their belts, What Makes Bob Holler, a 14-song marathon of Bob Wills tunes.

Though the recordings of Wills and his Texas Playboys are the major inspiration for their repertoire and style, guitarist Whit Smith, fiddler Elana James, and bassist Jake Erwin play Western swing with their own unique brand of fiery energy and jazzy improvisations. The Austin-based trio combines Will's western swing with the legendary 1930s string jazz sounds of violinist Stephane Grappelli and guitarist Django Reinhardt, and a generous helping of foot-stompin' fiddle jigs and reels.

Hot Club has created an international cult following with their sonic personification of joy, counting among their credits being the first American band to tour Azerbaijan, and opening for Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson. At the same time, years spent crisscrossing the USA in a silver Ford van through a landscape where local traditions are becoming more and more diluted has only increased the band's devotion to keeping their music sincere, free of irony, and focused on a simpler time. So come on and join the fun tonight and don't even try to keep your feet still.
