Pete Madsen is a teacher, writer, guitarist and performer based in Berkeley, California. He has written numerous lessons for Acoustic Guitar and Play Guitar magazines; and is the author of FretMaster: Slide Guitar and the Fretmaster: Funk Book, both published by Backbeat books; as well as A Guide to Acoustic Blues Guitar and the soon to be published The CAGED System for Guitar. |

Broonzy’s prolific career spanned the late 1920’s until his death in 1958. His guitar playing was masterful, combining a driving rhythmic approach with catchy melodies. In this class we will be playing tunes from throughout his career; early gems such as “Pig Meat Strut”, “Stove Pipe Stomp”, “Saturday Night Rub”, as well as later masterpieces such as “Hey, Hey” and “Shuffle Rag.” Participants should have some experience with Travis-style picking and be familiar with the songs of Broonzy.
