Back by popular demand for the sixth time, The Freight Goes British Revue turns its focus this year to the music of The Kinks! Each band will play three Kinks songs along with their own tunes.

Get your groove on for a trip back in time with tonight’s tour guides, The RaveUps. As a tribute to the The Yardbirds, they are unparalleled. For this show they are playing all Kinks songs with the same precision. Featuring Chris Solberg (Santana, Eddie Money,Chris Isaak) on guitar and Donn Spindt on drums of Berkeley’s own Rubinoo’s, the band also has Kit Newkirk on bass, Bob Lewis on rhythm guitar, and Dave Seabury on harmonica and vocals. This year Girl Named T will be joining forces with The RaveUps for a great Kinks set plus her own tunes.

San Francisco’s Theresa Sawi is the Girl Named T. She’s only 24, she has a great new album called Wait by the Rabbit Hole, and one of her songs, “Raven Fly,” was featured on the MTV show Awkward. This led to an interview on All Things Considered, and things are looking pretty good for this multi-talented musician who sings with a great combination of lightness and authority. She’s a big fan of Carole King and Smokey Robinson, as well as British pop music of the 60s.

The Blondies are five rockers from Berkeley and Oakland, inspired by the music of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and the Kinks. With Simon Lunche on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Frank Klopotowski on bass, Zak Meghrouni-Brown on guitar, Jerry Feist on keyboards, and Paul Davis on drums, the band serves up catchy originals and tasty covers of the classics.

Callaghan is a Berkeley based band composed of teens from all over the bay area. The band is composed of Desiree McCann (lead vocals), Ben Saldich (lead guitar), Isaac Roth (bass guitar), Celia Bolgatz (rhythm guitar) and John MacKay (drums).By writing all their own music, Callaghan creates a unique and original sound. By combining rhythm layers and soulful vocals, Callaghan is unlike any other.

The Whitecliff Rangers are a crew of lifelong musicians who share a passion for the music of the 60s British invasion. With brothers Robb and Bart Scott, and Jim Black, the band plays early Rolling Stones and other British devotees of American blues & pop.

The Berkeley Blues Coalition makes their return to the Freight tonight after a great debut in this show last year. Featuring Celeste Kopel on lead vocals, Nathan Phillips on lead guitar, Barry Weinstein on rhythm guitar, Jerry Fowler on drums, and the RaveUps’ Kit Newkirk on bass.  The band pays tribute to bluesy classic rock – think Cream, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix – and contemporary blues artists.
