Do you love the music of Robert Johnson, Big Bill Broonzy, Son House, Skip James, Blind Blake, Eric Clapton, and Keb Mo? This class will teach you the fundamentals of acoustic blues guitar. The focus will be on fingerstyle blues: a style that was performed by the early practitioners of blues guitar playing. This means we will be learning how to play a steady bass line while simultaneously playing a melody on the treble strings! Other topics will include: learning a 12 bar blues, slide guitar, open D and G tunings.

*Participants should know basic first position chords; beyond that, all you'll need is a love of blues, and, oh yeah, a slide!

Pete Madsen is a teacher, writer, guitarist and performer based in Berkeley, California. He has written numerous lessons for Acoustic Guitar and Play Guitar magazines; and is the author of "FretMaster: Slide Guitar" and the "Fretmaster: Funk Book," both published by Backbeat books; as well as "A Guide to Acoustic Blues Guitar" and "The CAGED System for Guitar."
