Learn the basics of bass theory and technique while you learn country and honky tonk classics from the likes of Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Kitty Wells, and other masters of the backwoods and barrooms. You’ll be playing along within the first 15 minutes, even if you haven’t touched a bass before. This class is open to all bass instruments: upright, guitar bass, electric bass, and ukulele bass.

Don’t actually have a bass? A loaner or rental might be available. Contact instructor Chuck Ervin at chuck.ervin@att.net.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:

Bassist Chuck Ervin performs swing music with the Sylvia Herold Ensemble, folk music with Euphonia, classic country with the Mike Stadler & Mary Gibbons Band, jazz and pop with guitarist Chris Grampp, and is an in-demand bassist in the Bay Area’s vibrant jazz and acoustic-music scenes.

He has worked with many other Bay Area musicians, including Bobby Black, Joe Craven, Ed Johnson, Jinx Jones, Keith Little, Tony Marcus, Jim Nunally, Jeff Sanford, Julian Smedley, and Radim Zenkl. He has also performed as an actor and musician in numerous stage productions, including “Woody Guthrie’s American Song” at the Freight & Salvage.
