Join Berkeley's own traditional and topical folk artist extraordinaire Carol Denney for an enlightening evening of quick wit and invigorating tunes! Tonight the spotlight is on Carol's new CD, Maggots in the Sheep Hide, a collection of traditional old time tunes. Carol performs solo for part of the night, and will be joined for the remainder of the evening with her stellar band-acoustic bassist Steven Strauss, fiddler Kerry Parker, and vocalist and banjo man Jim Nelson. You'll hear the album's title track, an old time fiddle tune as well as other traditional favorites with Carol's unique spin, such as "Solly's Little Favorite" as a secular gospel number in celebration of science.

Equally facile on guitar and English concertina, Carol has crafted an inimitable style with her songs of love, joy, and political struggle, delivered in one of the strongest voices to be heard among musicians in the Bay Area. Winner of the East Bay Express' readers' poll for "Best Solo Performer" in 2002, the following year Carol received an award from the City of Berkeley's Commission on the Status of Women for civil liberties activism through music, humor, and art.
