Bill EvansBill Evans presents the Freight debut of his international touring show The Banjo in America, playing music from more than 250 years of banjo history on an astounding variety of vintage and contemporary five-string banjos.

A familiar face on the Freight stage Bill has played with numerous luminaries including Dry Branch Fire Squad, The Waybacks, Los Cenzontles, and the Bee Eaters. For this show, Bill has drawn on his graduate studies in Ethnomusicology at UC Berkeley for a dazzling display that features akonting (folk lute of the Jola West African People) music, 19th century minstrelry, 19th and early 20th century classic banjo folk and bluegrass, and contemporary, as well as generous helpings of Bill's original music.
