Ending the weekend-long Berkeley Old-Time Music Convention Spring Fling on a high note, tonight's extravaganza features Jody Stecher & Kate Brislin and the Canote Brothers.

Two of the most acclaimed singers in traditional American music, Jody Stecher and Kate Brislin possess an amazing ability to capture the essence of a song, providing a masterful setting for their soulful harmonies with superb fiddle, guitar, banjo, and mandolin playing. In the words of the late great Utah Phillips, "If the great swirling mass of folk music has a solid persistent unwavering center, that is who Kate and Jody are."

The Seattle-based Canote Brothers—identical twin musicians with matching senses of humor—never fail to leave the room in stitches when they take the stage. With fiddle, banjo, ukulele, and genetically matched voices, Greg and Jere bring back fun, vintage American music, from long-forgotten fiddle scorchers to scat-filled swing classics and hilarious novelty songs from the 1920s and '30s. The twins' affable, friendly approach invites folks of all ages to share the spirit and quirky humor that characterizes their brand of old time music. National Public Radio fans may remember the Canote Brothers as the affable side-kicks on Sandy Bradley's Potluck for 13 years.
