New York singer-songwriter Ari Hest has a great voice and he plays both guitar and piano beautifully, but it’s the songs themselves that really grab your attention – they sound simple at first, but they keep flowing through your mind, making your reconsider. He has released eight albums, three EPs, and in 2008, he put out a song a week as part of his “52” project. Absolute Punk calls his latest album, Shouts and Whispers, “expertly crafted” and “clear, direct, and deeply moving,” and adds that “its subtlety and understatement is what makes it so magnetic.” Ari’s music has been featured on several television shows, including Private Practice, Army Wives, and One Tree Hill. His song "The Landlord" appeared in an episode of NPR's All Things Considered. He's also scored a film called Dreamriders, which won several independent film awards. He has toured with Judy Collins and Suzanne Vega, and tonight he comes to the Freight for what should be a terrific show!
