World Harmony Chorus 15th Annual Spring ConcertTake a musical tour around the world with the World Harmony Chorus and help them celebrate 15 years of joyful singing. Founded in 1999 by Daniel Steinberg, the chorus welcomes singers of all ages and abilities, and features a repertoire of songs from an enormous variety of cultures and regions, including hymns from Madagascar and Zimbabwe, Appalachian shape-note singing, Eastern European kolos, Venezuelan choral works, and American jazz and gospel.

Daniel Steinberg has been involved in the Bay Area traditional music scene for over 30 years, and is a member of the fiddle music ensemble, Hillbillies from Mars. He arranges most of the World Harmony Chorus repertoire and directs the Mountain View branch. Betsy Blakeslee directs the Oakland branch and also leads Instant Chorus workshops at the Freight. Her choirs have performed at the United Nations Millennial Summit and in Bosnia. The two branches of the World Harmony Chorus will join forces for this special anniversary concert.

The Kitka Community Chorus will also take part in the celebration. Founded in 2011, the chorus performs traditional vocal music from Eastern Europe and the Caucasus. Director Janet Kutulas is a long-time member and co-director of the Kitka Women’s Vocal Ensemble.

Please join us for a night of many beautiful voices lifted together in song. We can all use a little world harmony!
