Nina Wise and Wes Nisker, known for their profound foolishness and crazy wisdom, come to the Freight for an evening of…well, that’s hard to say.

Nina is a San Rafael performance artist and writer who has published articles, stories, and poems in Yoga Journal, Tricycle, and The Sun, and written a book, A Big New Free Happy Unusual Life, that Isabel Allende called “an empowering, joyful, and celebratory guide to a fuller life.” In performance, says the Village Voice, Nina “possesses a supple physique, prodigious energy, and nerve with which to render the shapes and souls of things,” and adds, “Lovingkindness abounds in her work.” Nina has won seven Bay Area Critics Circle Awards and received three fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts. And lovingkindness abounds in her work? That sounds like good stuff.

Wes grew up Jewish in a small Nebraska town, moved to San Francisco, and started working for the iconic radio station KSAN in 1968 – “if you don’t like the news, go out and make some of your own” – traveled in India, Burma, and Thailand, studied Buddhism and meditation, wrote a couple of books, including Crazy Wisdom, which Tom Robbins called “twenty-three times more liberating than the Bible, the Torah, and the Koran combined,” and all the while kept trying to preach what he practiced. His illuminating ruminations are funny, absurd, ridiculous, sublime and may lead to enlightenment.

In other words, what these two will cook up is anybody’s guess, but if you like to laugh, you will, and if you like to think, you will, and if your consciousness happens to expand, so be it.
