Hailing from the home of the Hobbit movies, and sharing DNA with Flight of the Conchords (Bret McKenzie co-founded the group), the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra is renowned for its winning combination of charming Kiwi humor, disarmingly small instruments, and sublime musicality – a joyful formula that’s proved popular around the world. Bret won’t be appearing tonight, but the group’s sense of humor is entirely intact. “Expect pop hits reworked into thrilling ukulele singalongs with comedic banter aplenty,” says the New Zealand Herald.

The group’s onstage antics are legendary. Their spontaneous riffs are often hilarious, and when they burst into song, the sweet sounds can silence a room in a nanosecond, or bring everyone in the crowd to their feet. They have a new album, Be Mine Tonight, featuring songs by some of New Zealand’s finest, including Lorde and Max and the Meteors. “It's a great album,” says the Libel Music website, “and hopefully we'll be treated to more recordings from them in the future. But to truly experience the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra you have to see them live on stage in all their glory.” A typical set might include Hall and Oates, Justin Timberlake, and Dolly Parton alongside tunes from the South Pacific. "Multiplying the amazing by exponential numbers," says MTV. These Kiwis are fun and their music will delight you!
