A breath-taking combination of stellar musicianship and raw energy, Veretski Pass, a trio of veteran klezmer artists, plays "Old Country" music ranging from the melodies of medieval Poland and dances from Bessarabia, Ruthenia, and Bukovina to melodies originating in the Ottoman Empire and Carpathian, Jewish and Rumanian musical traditions.

Tonight the trio performs their new composition Klezmer Shul, a four-movement instrumental suite, written to capture the emotional power of traditional synagogue singing without the use of words, as well as their standard repertoire and some special surprises.

Klezmer Shul captures the emotional power of liturgical song, drawing on jazz, avant garde, classical and folk elements to achieve a truly transcendent sound. This recent composition showcases the profound synergy between three of the leading instrumentalists on the international klezmer scene.

Cookie Segelstein (Budowitz, New Haven Symphony Orchestra), Joshua Horowitz (Budowitz), and Stuart Brotman (Ellis Island Band, the Klezmorim, San Francisco Klezmer Experience, Brave Old World) combine passion, originality, and polished expertise to produce music of depth and power on a variety of traditional instruments: violin, viola, button accordion, bass, basseti (three-stringed bass), basy (three-stringed Polish folk cello), baraban (Jewish-style drum), and tsimbi (hammered dulcimer), and more.

Trafik 2008, their most recent CD, consistently appears on the "ten-best" recording lists of journalists. Veretski Pass tours in Europe, have composed and performed for TV and film scores, and have twice served as ambassadors for traditional Jewish instrumental music of Eastern Europe at the German World Exhibition of Klezmer.
