Tonight versatile musician, composer, arranger, and educator Tony Marcus celebrates his birthday in spectacular style with a host of musical cohorts.

A longtime dapper presence on the Bay Area acoustic music scene, Tony is a mellifluous vocalist who superbly swings on all things stringed. He began playing traditional folk music in the 1970s, before migrating to the jazzier side of life with numerous groups, several who join him tonight. Tony has acted and played music at the Berkeley Repertory Theater, among many other playhouses, and recorded or performed with everyone from Kate Wolf and Frank Wakefield to the Royal Society Jazz Orchestra and Rose Maddox.

Tonight's celebration features: Steel Swingin' (featuring Tony, Bobby Black on steel guitar and Paul Anastasio on fiddle) reprising tunes from their 2009 self-titled CD, the witty, wonderful Cats & Jammers (Piper Heisig, Sylvia Herold, Tony) playing hot swing to low down blues, Leftover Dreams (Tony, Patrice Haan, Jeff Sanford) painting songs from the golden age of American song, and members of the infamous and eccentric Cheap Suit Serenaders.
