Steve Gillette and Cindy Mangsen have been performing together ever since they got married more than 20 years ago. In the words of Sing Out Magazine, “Steve and Cindy have hit on a combination that consistently produces high quality recordings and entertaining stage shows. Their voices and their styles meld seamlessly with a gentleness and a maturity that is unmatched in the world of folk duos.” Steve is a superb guitarist and a renowned songwriter. Cindy plays dulcimer, guitar, banjo, and concertina and is known for her compelling interpretations of traditional ballads, as well as for her own writing and her wonderful ear for harmony. Together, they make glorious folk music rich in feeling and nuance.

Steve’s songwriting hits go back to Ian & Sylvia’s recording of “Darcy Farrow” in 1965. Since then, his songs have been recorded by such artists as Garth Brooks, John Denver, Waylon Jennings, Linda Rondstadt, Townes Van Zandt, Jennifer Warnes, and Tammy Wynette. Steve and Cindy have each recorded several solo albums – she has one entirely devoted to songs about cats! – as well as recording five albums as a duo, including their latest, Home by Dark, a mix of old favorites and new songs ranging from Child ballads to classic rags to beautifully crafted originals. His warm baritone and her silky smooth soprano – it’s a match made in folk music heaven!
