Acoustic folk rock pioneer Shawn Phillips takes the Freight stage for a multifaceted evening of stellar songs new and old, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the launch of his wide-ranging musical career. Shawn's masterful guitar work, impressive vocal range, and wry, high-flown lyrics always helped him stand out among the singer-songwriter crowd, and his ebullient stage presence seals the deal.

One of more enigmatic musicians to come out of the early 1970's singer-songwriter boom, Shawn gained a devoted following with his refusal to shape his music—which crosses between folk-rock, jazz, progressive, pop, and classical—to anyone else's expectations. (His most recent CD, At the BBC, showcases his amazing versatility, from stunning acoustic balladry to full-on funk workouts.) Since his early days in the 1960's folk scene, when he played the legendary clubs of Greenwich Village and Haight-Asbury with the likes of Bob Dylan and Richie Havens, Shawn has been associated with some of the most respected names in the industry. As a solo artist, he has over 20 albums to his credit, including top 40 hits like "Lost Horizon," "We," and "Woman," and numerous platinum sellers. His seminal 1970's albums Contribution and Second Contribution were re-released on CD last year.
