Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme OutRussell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out are the real deal, bluegrass virtuosos who feature gorgeous vocals, exquisite harmonies, and fabulous musicianship. They’ve been playing together for nearly 25 years now, winning dozens of band and individual awards along the way. Russell has nabbed six Male Vocalists of the Year awards from the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America and three more from the International Bluegrass Music Association. The band has won awards for Bluegrass Band of the Year and Vocal Group of the Year a whopping 13 times. “All the awards, all the recognition, those things are just by-products of doing what we love to do,” Russell says. “But when you know that somebody else out there is getting something from you because of your music, well, that’s the thing about music that got me into it—just the love of the music, and the way it made me feel.”

Russell grew up outside Houston, joined a band called Southern Connection, and moved to North Carolina. For six years he played with Bluegrass Hall of Famer Doyle Lawson in the legendary band, Quicksilver, and then, in 1991, he co-founded IIIrd Tyme Out. The band has evolved over the years, and now features Russell on guitar and lead vocals, Wayne Benson on mandolin, Justen Haynes on fiddle, Keith McKinnon on banjo, and Blake Johnson on bass. Their latest album, Timeless Hits From The Past…BLUEGRASSED, includes vintage country classics like “Mama Tried” and “Golden Ring” as well as a few key songs from the group’s own past.
