Rose CousinsRose Cousins, who hails from Prince Edward Island and has roots in musical communities in Halifax and Boston, is a Canadian singer and songwriter whose music digs deep into dark places and casts a bright light. Her third and most recent album, We Have Made A Spark, won the Juno Award for Roots & Traditional Album of the Year in 2013, and she has also won a pair of Canadian Folk Music Awards for Best Contemporary Singer, six East Coast Music Awards, and three Nova Scotia Music Awards. “Her voice is provocatively focused and clear, her melodies alluring, her lyricism astute,” says Kim Ruehl of Folk Alley, praising her latest album and calling her “one of my favorite songwriters.”

Rose is big on community, appearing on the albums of many musical friends, including Kris Delmhorst, Lori McKenna, and Mark Erelli, and reaching out to her community to help record We Have Made A Spark. The Canadian Broadcasting Company debuted her short film, If I Should Fall Behind, about the community in Boston where she made the album. Rose’s music evokes strong emotions, which may be why her songs have been featured on several television programs, including Grey’s Anatomy, Rookie Blue, Heartland, Hope for Wildlife, and Drop Dead Diva. An evening with Rose promises an exploration of dark places – and the spark that comes from community and connection!

Jordie LaneJordie Lane of Melbourne, Australia inspires lofty comparisons. Rolling Stone Magazine invokes “the soulful tenderness of Ron Sexsmith and Ray LaMontagne” and says that his “gentle finger picking and intimate vocals lend a somber grace that is universal.” The Bluegrass Situation describes him as “a young man with an old soul and an honest sound, harkening back to Gram Parsons and Bob Dylan.” FBi Radio of Sydney compares him to Jeff Tweedy and Jackson Browne – but when you give Jordie a serious listen, you discover that he has a sound all his own, a gritty blend of folk and pop, at times lyrical, at times raw. The son of a comedian and a clown, Jordie spent his early years in his parents’ traveling circus, and now he’s touring the world with the likes of Billy Bragg, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Old Crow Medicine Show, Neko Case, Cat Power, Ruthie Foster, and The Moody Blues. This year, he’s released a live album, Live at the Wheaty, and a five-song EP, Not Built to Last, which inspired the Sydney Morning Herald to proclaim, “this guy is one of the country’s contemporary legends.”
