Known primarily as a two-time Grammy nominated country singer-songwriter, Robbie Fulks is no stranger to bluegrass. His dark and occasionally grim lyrics fit perfectly with Appalachian sounds. He’s been on Austin City Limits and A Prairie Home Companion and the Chicago Tribute says he’s, “So good, he’s scary.”  Joining Fulks for Berkeley Bluegrass Festival are Todd Philips (David Grisman Quintet/Tony Rice Unit/Bluegrass Album Band/Psychograss) on string bass, Shad Cobb (Helen Highwater) on fiddle, and Jesse Cobb (Infamous Stringdusters) on mandolin.

The Bow Ties play traditional bluegrass that feels new. Featuring Yoseff Tucker (of Supermule), Billy Moore, Jan Purat (of Steep Ravine), Andrew Powers March, and Zach Sharpe (of Supermule and Front Country), this quintet plays with the aggressive spirit of the original bluegrass masters.

35 Years of Trouble are one of the youngest bands playing bluegrass in Northern California. Tessa Schwartz, Helen Ludé, John Gooding, and Jake Gooding are all underage and they’ve already wowed audiences at the Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival, CBA Father’s Day Festival, the Freight and plenty of festivals around the Bay Area.

The Blue J’s are a young quartet playing hard driving bluegrass around Northern California. With John Gooding on mandolin, Jesse Personeni on banjo, Jake Gooding on bass, and John Gooding on guitar, they’re sure to blow you away.

On the Gallery Stage, starting at 6pm: Wendy Burch Steel & the Redwood Trio play a unique cross-section of genres incorporating all the good and sweet aspects of folk, old-time, country, bluegrass and blues. Wendy is known for her deft angelic voice and spiritually touching original material. She was nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year for the past two years, with the Northern California Bluegrass Society. Her band members include some of the best Bluegrass and Americana players and singers in California and beyond.
