Peter Himmelman wrote most of the songs on his latest album, The Boat That Carries Us, while flying cross-country at an altitude of 33,000 feet. “Being so high above things,” he says, “gave the songs a particular perspective — physically and metaphysically.” Blurt Magazine describes the songs as “frank, funny, topical and, on occasion, even tumultuous, each underscored by a keen melodic savvy and an astute lyrical sensibility that raises the bar on everyday pop proficiency,” and declares the album “stark, seductive and consistently compelling.” American Songwriter calls Peter “a vibrant, savvy wordsmith” and the album “yet one more folk-rocking gem.”

Peter has released close to 50 albums since his debut with the Minneapolis indie band Sussman Lawrence in the late 1970s, earning a Grammy nomination for his children’s album My Green Kite, and an Emmy nomination for a song he composed for the television program Judging Amy, which he scored for its first four seasons. He’s also a noted painter and visual artist, as well as a communications guru, but it’s his music that brings him to the Freight, music that, in the words of the San Francisco Chronicle, “probes the depths of all the passions, from anguish to lust, to depths few rockers can even imagine.”

Christian Lee Hutson calls himself a work in progress. Others call him the King of Bummercore, and it’s true he has a knack for downbeat ditties. Somehow, though, they have an uplifting undertow. “I can’t help but go for broke / I won’t last on anything less,” he sings on “One, Two, Three” from his second and latest album, Yeah Okay, I Know, and maybe that spirit is what gives his songs their buoyancy, the exuberance of a young artist laying it all on the line. Americana UK raves about the new album, describing it as “startlingly good,” “remarkable,” and “daring, vibrant, and original.” Paste Magazine says, "He will change you. Go see him tonight."
