The colorful past of Paul Thorn, a native of good old rockin' blues country in Tupelo, Mississippi, includes gigs performed at the age of three while traveling with his evangelist preacher father, a career as a professional boxer (he went seven rounds with Roberto Duran on national TV), factory work, and skydiving—not to mention some truly masterful songwriting and a style of muscular blues-rock with lots of gospel overtones that gets in your head and won't let go.

The rich musical heritage of Paul's hometown is evident in his tasty mixture of musical moods, and his personal history shapes the witty, sharply observed songs, like "Weeds in My Roses" and "Tequila is Good for the Heart" on his brand-new CD, Pimps and Preachers. Noted as a songwriter in Nashville, Tanya Tucker, Shenandoah, and Ronnie Milsap are among those who have recorded his songs, while Kris Kristofferson has called him "the best kept secret in the music business." Paul brings his high-energy, live-wire performance style to the Freight for an evening of jaw-dropping stories and great down-home music.
