Paul McCandless & Antonio CalogeroGrammy-winning jazz woodwind player Paul McCandless and captivating guitarist Antonio Calogero join forces for an evening of innovative world music.

A soaring, deeply moving lyricism marks Paul’s performances and compositions. During a distinguished career spanning three decades, his talents have been integral to the ensemble sound of two seminal world music bands, the Paul Winter Consort and the relentlessly innovative quartet, Oregon, in addition to collaborations with artists including Béla Fleck, tabla artist Sandip Burman, and The String Cheese Incident. Reflecting his grounding in both classical and jazz disciplines, Paul specializes in a wide range of reed instruments, including oboe, English horn, soprano saxophone, clarinet, and pennywhistle. His numerous honors include shared Grammy Awards for Best New Age Album for CDs with Paul Winter Consort and Best Pop Instrumental Album for his 1996 CD with Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, and Grammy nominations for Best Instrumental Composition CD, Best Instrumental Arrangement CD, and Best Jazz Instrumental Solo.

Italy-born Antonio Calogero is a bright light in the new generation of acoustic guitarist/composers.  Drawing on folk, jazz, classical, and international influences, the poetic sensibility of the Mediterranean is always present when this intense and captivating guitarist takes the stage.  Although he composes for both nylon and steel-string guitar, Antonio’s rigorous classical guitar training imbues his passionate performances with insight and precision. After relocating to the Bay Area in the mid-1990s, Antonio became a regularly featured performer on Brian Gore’s International Guitar Night tours, and formed the Antonio Calogero Ensemble with bassist Michael Manring and percussionist Brian Rice.
