San Francisco’s Pamela Rose celebrates the life and times – and especially the music – of the wild women who wrote songs in the bygone days of Tin Pan Alley. With an all-star band, a wealth of projected images, and her own vocal magic, she delivers a multi-media concert that showcases well-known artists like Alberta Hunter and Peggy Lee as well as lesser known figures like Maria Grever and Ida Cox. “It's more than a jazz concert,” says San Francisco Magazine. “It’s a swinging honors course in womankind!” The website Jazz Times calls it “heartfelt, female-centric jazz anthropology.” The show features classics like “A Fine Romance” and “I’m in the Mood for Love” as well as rare nuggets like “Wild Women (Don’t Get the Blues).”

Pamela debuted the show in 2010, and since then it has played to sell-out crowds in London and Los Angeles, as well as at the Monterey Jazz Festival, the SF Jazz Festival, Cal Performances, and the Stanford Jazz Workshop. She’s not only a remarkable singer but also a gifted storyteller with a compelling story to tell. Jazz and blues critic Lee Hildebrand praises her “depth of feeling, crystalline enunciation, refined musical sensibility, and rich, inviting alto tones,” and her “fresh, frequently exquisite takes” on the standards and not-so-standards composed by the wild women of song. The excellent band features Tammy Hall on piano, Ruth Davies on bass, Kristen Strom on saxophone, and Kent Bryson on drums.
