Start with Tim O’Brien, Grammy-winning country and bluegrass virtuoso from West Virginia. Add his sister Mollie, herself a Grammy-winning singer based in Denver. Stir in Mollie’s husband Rich, a brilliant musician in his own right. Then add Tim’s sons, Jackson and Joel, and Mollie’s daughters, Brigid and Lucy, and you have O’Brien Party of 7. Sprinkle with the secret ingredient – the music of Roger Miller – and enjoy a delicious musical feast.

Tim, who co-founded the pioneering bluegrass band Hot Rize in 1978, has recorded three albums with Mollie and more than a dozen solo albums, including Fiddler’s Green, Grammy winner in 2005 for best Traditional Folk Album. He’s collaborated with Steve Martin, toured with Mark Knopfler, and written songs for such artists as Garth Brooks, Kathy Mattea, and the DixieChicks. Molly, who appears regularly on A Prairie Home Companion and Mountain Stage, has recorded eleven acclaimed albums. In the words of the Washington Post, “The precision of her phrasing, the smooth flow of her delivery, and the sheer beauty of her alto make her one of the best interpretive singers in American pop today.”

Molly and Tim have long wanted to collaborate on a family project, and the music of Roger Miller gave them a worthy focus. The result is Reincarnation, recorded at Tim’s home studio in Nashville. “Frankly I’m surprised no one has thought of an album like this before now,” says the Village Records website. “If ever there was a rich songbook it’s Miller’s.” Famous for classics like “King of the Road” and “England Swings,” Roger Miller wrote seven #1 singles, won 11 Grammies and two Tony awards, and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

When they played on BBC Radio 2, the host called their performance “quite extraordinary.” Cahalen Morrison comes from the high desert country of northern New Mexico; Eli West is based in Seattle.
