Oakland Interfaith Gospel ChoirCome glory in the soul-stirring repertoire and harmonies of the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir as this venerable 60-member ensemble makes its Freight debut! Featuring joyful selections from the newly released CD, Hear My Prayer, this world-renowned multi-racial, interfaith choir performs original praise songs, gospel standards, and spirituals.

A Bay Area institution directed by Terrance Kelly, OIGC appears at festivals, churches, and concert halls far and wide, with audiences ranging from homeless shelter residents and prison inmates to folks like Nelson Mandela and Mikhail Gorbachev. OIGC has released five CDs to date, and recorded with Linda Ronstadt, Peter Gabriel, the Kronos Quartet, and more, polishing their reputation for beautiful harmonies and eclecticism.

In addition to the multitude of voices, this performance features keyboardists Carl Wheeler, Ben Heveroh, Louis Burrell, and Tina Bryant, plus alto saxophonist Kevin Moore; guitarist Cam Perridge; bassists David Belove, Joel Smith, and Scott Thompson, drummer Joel Smith, and Raymond Smith on tambourine.

Rhythmic Concepts, Inc. (now called Living Jazz, Inc.) founded OIGC in 1986. Its inspiration came from a gospel music workshop led by Terrance Kelly at RCI’s Jazz Camp West. Terrance, the son of prominent choir director and arranger Faye Kelly, and the late pianist and organist Ed Kelly, led OIGC to become the first-class, eclectic singing ensemble that it is today.
