A veritable feast of Irish music is yours for the enjoying tonight as singer Michael Black and virtuoso multi-instrumentalist Jon Sanders take the stage.

As one might expect from a member of the famed Black family, Michael is a superb musician with a singing style full of captivating passion and a deep, rich repertoire of contemporary and traditional material.  Growing up (along with sisters Frances and Mary and brothers Shay and Martin) in a home where music was a vital component of everyday life, Michael learned early on that songs are "good for the soul," a philosophy that shines through whether he's performing a beautifully evocative story-song, a loopy ditty, or a boisterous sing-along. The Irish Times had this to say of Michael's eponymous debut solo CD, released by Compass Records in 2007: "There's enough pristine music tucked inside this solo collection to power a rocket."

Based in Dingle, Ireland and Auckland, New Zealand, Jon is a remarkable musician, whether he's playing guitar, bouzouki, or ukulele. A leading exponent of DADGAD, or "Celtic tuning," on the guitar, Jon takes full advantage of the freedom within the contemporary acoustic music scene, with a style that incorporates elements of jazz, funk, Latino, and gaelic styles. He has played with many of Ireland's most famous traditional performers, including Mary Black, Seamus and Brendan Begley, and Steve Cooney.
