Marla Fibish & Bruce VictorNoctambule: Travel in the Shadows album release, benefit for Healing Muses and Harps for Hearts with special guests Patrice Haan, Lisa Lynne, Sylvia Herold, Jeri Jones, Aryeh Frankfurter, Tom Neylan, Susan Spurlock, and others.

Tonight, Noctambule will take all comers on a journey through their repertoire of night music. The duo was named after their setting of a Robert Service poem about a late night ramble through the streets and less savory back alleys of Paris.

Acoustic Guitar says their new CD, Noctambule: Travel in the Shadows, "is a wonderfully and appropriately restrained take on deep, timeless poetry by two sensitive musicians." Those musicians are Marla Fibish, a long-time fixture of the Bay Area Irish music community known for bringing a musicality to the tradition seldom heard on the mandolin, and Bruce Victor, an accomplished guitarist and composer who writes and plays across genres.

They blend their voices with guitars, mandola, mandolin, bouzouki, tenor guitar, and accordion to interpret the poetry of Service, Tennyson, Neruda, Roethke, and St. Vincent Millay. With the exception of one traditional tune, the music is all original.

The recording is centered on the idea of the 'night journey' and the opportunity to see and experience things differently once the usual sources of light have been extinguished. Noctambule will be joined tonight by Lisa Lynne, Patrice Haan, Sylvia Herold, Jeri Jones, Aryeh Frankfurter, Tom Neylan, and Susan Spurlock, and others. "The irregular phrases, unpredictable meters and strangely beautiful harmonies conjure a nocturnal world where the words of some of our finest poets take shape," says Alex DeGrassi. "Travel in the Shadows is folk music at its best—hand made, without a template." It's going be a exhilarating night of music at the Freight, so pack something warm and come prepared for adventure.

Proceeds will be donated to City of Hope "Harps for Hearts" Program and Healing Muses, two organizations who work to bring music to those who are ailing or dying, through concerts in health care and hospice environments.
