Featuring three young guitar virtuosos, Los Angeles-based New West Guitar Group is a premier acoustic/electric guitar ensemble. Their original music is a tantalizing brew of jazz, rock, and folk, blending the timbres of acoustic and electric guitars to create an unequivocally distinctive sound that spans the range from delicate introspection to exhilarating swing and gritty blues. The trio—John Storie, Perry Smith, and Jeff Stein—have won plenty of recognition since its founding five years ago, receiving the coveted Thornton Protégé Grant from the University of Southern California and performing in Japan and Germany as official musical ambassadors of Los Angeles. The group continues to perform at major venues throughout Canada, Japan, Europe, and the United States and recently collaborated with inventive jazz vocalist Gretchen Parlato and world-class acoustic guitar luthier Jeff Traugott to produce their third album, Sleeping Lady.
