Mandolin players from several corners of the globe converge on the Freight stage tonight for a high energy border- and genre-hopping extravaganza that no fan of strings should miss!

Bay Area mandolin virtuoso Mike Marshall is the leading proponent of an ebullient hybrid of folk-jazz-classical music that explores territory stretching from Brazil through Appalachia to Europe and Africa, by way of Manhattan and the Florida swamps. He first gained acclaim for his groundbreaking "newgrass" work with David Grisman, and more recently founded the Modern Mandolin Quartet and the Brazilian ensemble, Choro Famoso.

The winner of numerous national and international music competitions, Bulgarian mandolin artist Caterina Lichtenberg has performed around the globe, as a soloist and in numerous other musical settings, from her work with the duo Duetto Giocondo to performances with the Dresden Symphony Orchestra.

Chicago music scene veteran Don Stiernberg found his direction in life as a teenager, when he met the legendary Jethro Burns for mandolin lessons. As a member of The Jethro Burns Quartet, he shared the stage with such luminaries as Chet Atkins, Steve Goodman, and The Newgrass Revival. He has been focusing on playing jazz on the mandolin for the past decade.

Writer/teacher/performer Rich DelGrosso is widely regarded as the leading exponent of mandolin blues. His performances at clubs and festivals and the airplay of his recordings have garnered him five Blues Music Award nominations and a Keeping the Blues Alive Award from the Blues Foundation in Memphis.

Youthful São Paulo native Danilo Brito is one of the most inspired and important mandolinist in Brazil today. He is a master of the Jacob do Bandolin school of ‘Choro' mandolin playing and will wow you with his inventive and lightning fast melodic ideas as well and melt your heart with his tender interpretations of the beautiful songs from his native land. In 2004, Danilo won Brazil's prestigious VISA Award for best instrumentalist.
