Maria MuldaurIt’s Christmas at the Oasis – send your reindeer to bed! Maria Muldaur and her crackerjack quintet, featuring Danny Caron on guitar, Ruthie Davies on upright bass, Kent Bryson on drums, Chris Burns on keyboards, and a horn player to be named later, are bringing a sassy blast of Christmas cheer to the Freight. This ain’t the same old sappy holiday schmaltz, folks – it’s an evening of hip, swinging vintage Christmas tunes played with Maria’s trademark blend of jazz and blues.

Maria was born in Greenwich Village and began singing professionally as a teenager in the early 1960s, first in the Even Dozen Jug Band with David Grisman and John Sebastian, then in the Jim Kweskin Jug Band with Geoff Muldaur. Her solo career took off in 1973 with the release of the hit single “Midnight at the Oasis,” and since then she’s recorded close to 40 albums, been nominated for half a dozen Grammies, and continued to work with extraordinary musicians from Jerry Garcia to Bonnie Raitt to Odetta. Sultry and sweet, bawdy and beautiful, Maria is a W-O-M-A-N who has run the gamut of American roots music, and now she’s turning the spotlight on Christmas. You don’t need to be a Wise Man to know that when Maria sings, the Freight is the place to be!
