MànranThe high-energy Scottish band Mànran mixes traditional Gaelic and English songs with their own hard-driving originals to create a unique blend of folk and rock, with accordion, fiddle, flute, and guitar soaring over pounding drums and pulsing bass, accented with both uillean and highland pipes. The result is catchy and innovative. The Irish World calls them “one of Scotland’s most fascinating new musical forces” and the Daily Record says “their star is most definitely on the rise. Watch them go.”

The band came together in 2010, released a self-titled album in 2011, and performed at the Summer Olympics in London in 2012. They also won a Creative Scotland Award from the Daily Record and helped raise more than two million pounds for under-privileged children in Scotland with sales of their song “Take You There.” The website musicscotland.com calls their new album, The Test, “superb.” The band features Garry Innes on accordion, Ewen Henderson on fiddle, Norrie MacIver on lead vocals, Scott Mackay on drums, Ryan Murphy on uillean pipes, flute, and saxophone, and Ross Saunders on bass. “I think our sound is for all generations,” Ross says. “We’re not trying to go for a boy band factor. We just want to expose the language and just expose people to traditional music in general. That’s the most important thing.” These guys are crowd pleasers. Their show should be big fun!
