One of Ireland's hottest traditional bands, Lúnasa's fiery style features buoyant rhythms, wondrously tight playing, and inventive arrangements that seek out the heartbeat of each tune with its distinctive use of upright bass and percussive guitar. The resulting sound is distinctly Irish, yet informed by jazz and other improvisational music forms.

The members of Lúnasa have been the backbone of many of the great Irish groups of our time, but in this combination Trevor Hutchinson (formerly of The Waterboys) on bass, Kevin Crawford (formerly of Moving Cloud) on flute, Sean Smyth (formerly of Donal Lunny's Coolfin) on fiddle, Cillian Vallely on pipes, and Paul Meehan (the Karan Casey band) on guitar and banjo, get the chance to place their considerable talents front stage and center.

Lúnasa has released a number of great albums, including their 1999 recording, Otherworld (Green Linnet), named best traditional Irish album by both the Irish Voice and Irish Echo newspapers, and their recent retrospective, The Story So Far. Lunasa's new album, Lá Nua (Irish for New Day), released April 2010 is the first on Lúnasa Records, and fully revels their capacity to keep surprising listeners with their unreplicable sound. Earle Hitchner of the Irish Echo says, "Lá Nua is Lunasa in peak form."
