Spin calls them “a wondrous banjo duet” and American Songwriter praises their “earnest, earthy songcraft.” The praise is well-earned. Kendl Winter and Palmer T. Lee are The Lowest Pair, and together they make music of haunting power and bleak beauty. The sparse instrumentals are consistently evocative, but it’s the depth and richness of the vocal harmonies that bring you to your knees.
 
Kendl was born in Arkansas and presently homesteads in Olympia, Washington. Her singing calls to mind Gillian Welch and Iris Dement – it has a similar unvarnished loveliness. Palmer grew up in Minneapolis. When he was 19, he inherited two banjos and discovered that he could reassemble them into his dream instrument. Kendl and Palmer released their debut album, 36¢, in 2014, followed up with The Sacred Heart Sessions, and now have a new album, I Reckon I’m Fixin’ on Kickin’ Round to Pick a Little. They may be The Lowest Pair, but they’re sure to win a lot of hands – and fans!
