Lou & Peter BerrymanDo you like clever wordplay? Are you a fan of subversive humor? Do catchy tunes and hilarious punch lines give you a lift? If so, you probably already know all about Lou & Peter Berryman, the warm and witty folk duo from the heart of cheese country. If you’ve never seen them live or heard them on A Prairie Home Companion, NPR’s Morning Edition, or KPFA, you’re in for a treat. In the words of the Boston Globe, they “do to Midwestern sensibilities what Christine Lavin does to stressful New York, and what Tom Lehrer so long ago did to the intellectual pomposities of Cambridge: hoist the norms of everyday culture hilariously on their own petards. Their satires are at once bitingly funny and endearing, wildly absurdist and vividly human. They have the rare ability to make us simultaneously laugh at and care about the people they lampoon.” They make you laugh. They make you think. They entertain.

Lou and Peter were both raised in Appleton, Wisconsin, and began playing music together in high school during the 1960s. Lou studied classical voice and music theory in college while Peter puttered around with surrealist art, beatnik poetry, and jug band music. Their brief marriage in the early 70s resolved into a lifelong friendship, and they’ve been working together as full-time musicians and songwriters for more than 30 years, producing three songbooks and 19 albums, including their most recent, Rocky Frontier. If you’ve ever pondered the eternal questions – like “Why Am I Painting the Living Room?” – you’ll love the quirky yet oddly profound music of Peter and Lou.
