Linda TilleryTonight Linda Tillery fills the Freight with Music of Protest and Resistance. Highlighting the music of Donny Hathaway, Richie Havens, the Staples Singers, along with traditional spirituals, paying tribute to African-American composers whose music influenced and sustained the Civil Rights and anti-war movements of the 1960s. Though the music was a reflection and response to those times it feels current once again as we find ourselves at a social crossroads and another critical moment in our national history.

Linda is a Bay Area native and Grammy nominee who was one of the original members of Bobby McFerrin’s Voicestra, an anchor of the women’s music movement, and who for the last twenty-five years has led the Cultural Heritage Choir, touring the world to preserve and share African-American roots music. Joining Linda tonight are a team of Bay Area all-stars: Tammy Hall-Hawkins, Ray Obiedo, Ruth Davies, and Leon Joyce Jr. We can’t think of anyone better than Linda to help us honor this musical tradition and we hope you’ll join us for a wonderful evening of inspiring and invigorating songs.
