Linda Tillery & the Cultural Heritage ChoirIf the burden of life and times seems too great, take a deep drink of spiritual enlivenment tonight from the music of Linda Tillery and the Cultural Heritage Choir. Songs of protest and union songs of the 40s through the 60s form the basis of the program, lifted up to new heights by the voices of the Grammy-nominated choir. Since forming in 1992, the group has explored the sounds of the African diaspora, revealing Southern folk songs, music from Africa, South America and the Caribbean. The group released its most recent recording, Still We Sing, Still We Rise, in 2010.

Tonight's music explores the central value of solidarity in struggles of the country's recent past. Underneath the voices (Linda Tillery, Rhonda Benin, Tammi Brown, Elouise Burrell, Bryan Dyer, Rico Pabon, and Simon Monserrat), the evocative guitar work of Camilo Landau accompanies the brilliant percussion of Linda and Jachie Rago. Does the percussion tie the voices to the earth or does the choir carry the drumming even higher? Come find out.
