What would you like to know about W. Kamau Bell? The “W” stands for Walter. He has a new gig on CNN as host of a race and culture travel series, The United Shades of America. (His debut piece, a softy on the Iowa State Fair, drew praise and fire for his line about Ku Klux Lambs.) He lives in Berkeley. (Controversy has found him even in his new hometown.) His hilarious show on FX, Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell, didn’t last long. (It did, however, receive an NAACP Image Award and a GLAAD Award.) The New York Times called him “the most promising new talent in political comedy in many years.” He currently serves at the ACLU’s Ambassador of Racial Justice. (But he’s a little pissed they didn’t give him a badge.) He has appeared on Comedy Central’s @midnight, HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, Conan, Meet The Press, WTF with Marc Maron, The Rachel Maddow Show, Fresh Air, and This American Life. His writing has appeared on VanityFair.com, Salon.com, MSNBC.com, and Buzzfeed. His “gimmick,” says the New Yorker, “is intersectional progressivism: he treats racial, gay, and women’s issues as inseparable.” Salon.com named him one of their Sexiest Men of 2012. (But this is 2015.)

The wonderful public radio station KALW is sponsoring this event, and we advise getting your tickets early, because chances of a sellout are high.
