Jonatha Brooke

Jonatha Brooke has a light touch with heavy subjects. “Devastating and gorgeous. A poignantly funny, beautifully created narrative.” That’s how the New York Times described her recent one-woman show, My Mother Has 4 Noses, a tender love story about taking care of her dying mother. It’s that combination of the devastating and the gorgeous that gives Jonatha’s music such compelling torque. She “rocks it,” says the New Yorker, calling her “charming and very funny” and “a seasoned musician with a beautiful voice.”

Jonatha started playing folk clubs in Boston in the late 1980s and recorded two fine albums with Jennifer Kimble as The Story. Since then, she’s released nine solo albums, started her own independent label, Bad Dog, co-written songs with Katy Perry and The Courtyard Hounds, and composed music for three Disney films and various television shows, including Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse. Her 2008 album, The Works, features some of Woody Guthrie’s previously unpublished lyrics set to her own tunes. Theater Pizzazz calls her “a unique and singularly gifted artist.” Expect provocative songs, performed with great wit and charm.
