John Hammond is a blues wonder. He can do more with a guitar, a harmonica, and his voice than just about anyone around. And his roots go deep. He once had a band with both Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton. He’s played with Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Duane Allman, Mike Bloomfield, The Band before they were The Band, Dr. John, and John Lee Hooker. He’s put out at least 33 albums in his half-century career, won a Grammy and received seven more nominations, and garnered ten Blues Music Awards, including Album of the Year for his 2014 release, Timeless. Naturally, he’s a member of the Blues Hall of Fame. The New York Times calls him “a blues legend with a voice like Robert Johnson’s and a demeanor that belies his tear-it-up might before an audience.” Tom Waits calls him “a great force of nature. John sounds like a big train coming. He chops them all down.” Tonight is your chance to see this force of nature at the Freight!
